Stargate Universe Music / Soundtrack – Absolutely Magical

So I have been pretty vocal about how much I disliked Stargate Universe. The first half was boring, graphic in many situations and not my cup of tea. I decided to flat out stop watching it. The show “V” was on at the time and I really enjoyed it. I have since re-watched all 10 seasons of Stargate SG-1.

I later listened to a few podcasts from the guys over at Gateworld (great podcast by the way) and decided to give Stargate Universe a second chance. I don’t know if the writers took a hint, but the second half has actually turned out to be some pretty good stuff.

You know what I am liking most about Stargate Universe? The music! It has one of the best soundtracks I have heard on a TV series in a while, probably since Star Trek TNG. So here are a few excellent soundtrack clips I have found on YouTube. There still isn’t an album available, but once it is, I’m there!

Stargate Universe – Will It Get Exciting?

I am a huge fan of Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis. I have been a huge fan of the genre since the original movie came out in 1994.

I am always willing to give a show a chance. Now that I have seen 7 episodes of Stargate Universe, I have to say that I am starting to get really disappointed. I know everyone keeps touting that Stargate Universe is “Stargate” grown up and that it is more character developed. I realize that the show needs to change to attract a bigger audience. I am cool with that. I think, however, in their effort to sex up the show and make it more like Battlestar Galactica they may be driving away their core base.

The show fore me, however, has too much character development and not enough action. The character development itself really isn’t that good anyway. I am a huge fan of FireFly, and character development on that show was amazing.

I am really hoping, before giving up all hope, that there will be an episode with some real action (and not of the sexual nature). I don’t want to sound like too much of a prude, but the sexual encounters on this show are a little too much for me. I used to watch Stargate with the entire family, with my own mom being a fan. Not any more. I won’t watch this with my son. I want my Sci-Fi to be of the Star Wars nature with lots of lasers and explosions.

The visuals, on the other hand, are amazing. I think the ship is beautiful and the CGI is really good. Joel Goldsmith has also written an amazing score for the show.

Eli, to me, seems to be the most redeemable character. I will keep watching a few more episodes before throwing in the towel.

Stargate – The Ark Of Truth. Not Too Bad!

I am one of the many Stargate SG-1 fans that was pretty bummed out when we heard that the series was to be canceled. I couldn’t believe it. The rumors certainly started to fly. I heard things from “the money wasn’t there” to the cast had signed on and were equally surprised by the shows cancellation. Luckily we still have Stargate Atlantis and the show is doing great!

I managed to pick up a copy of “The Ark Of Truth” and was very impressed. I know this review is a little late in coming, but the “movie” really took off from were the show ended. It was especially nice to get some resolution on the whole Ori situation. I won’t go into too many details for those of you who haven’t seen it, but if you like Sci-Fi, like I do, pick up a copy.

Don’t torrent it, buy a copy. These guys deserve the money for some prime work. That and I hope if they see the interest is still there they will keep Stargate Atlantis going for several more seasons.

The next Stargate SG-1 “made for TV movie” will come out on July 29, 2008 and is entitled Stargate Continuum. According to the IMDB the synopsis for Stargate Continuum is:

Ba’al travels back in time and prevents the Stargate program from being started. SG-1 must somehow restore history.

I’m excited, especially since Richard Dean Anderson will be in this one! Nice! While you’re waiting for it to come out, check out this nice Stargate Wiki I found.
