I heard about Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles several months ago and completely forgot about it. Yesterday, while watching TV, I saw a trailer for the new TV series slated for January 14, 2008. Upon seeing the TV trailer I just about starting giggling like a little girl. I have loved the Terminator Movies since T2 came out while I was in high school. What’s not to love? A story that mixes the future with present times. Classic!
I am also VERY excited to see Summer Glau in the new TV series. You may know her from her short-lived TV series FireFly, of which I am a huge fan. I am certain she will do a great job playing Cameron Phillips. Could that name be a small tribute to James Cameron who directed the first two films?
The TV series has some serious potential, but could seriously be bad. Perhaps it is because I am so used to seeing Arnold Schwarzenegger as the terminator (although T3 had Kristanna Loken as the T-X), but seeing that new guy as a male terminator just seemed out of place. There is also the HUGE possibility of the new TV series going completely outside the “canon” series of events set by the three movies. All that aside, it looks pretty fun and could be the biggest sci-fi TV series since Battlestar Galactica. Fox TV, the people bringing this to us, have this plotline posted on their site:
At the end of “Terminator 2: Judgment Day,” Sarah vanquished the liquid metal Terminator sent from the future to kill her teenage son, John. Sarah and John now find themselves alone in a very dangerous, complicated world. Fugitives from the law, they are confronted with the reality that still more enemies from the future, and the present, could attack at any moment.
THE SARAH CONNOR CHRONICLES reveals what happens when SARAH (Lena Headey, “The Brothers Grimm,” “300”) stops running and goes on the offensive against an ever-evolving technological enemy bent on destroying her life, and perhaps the world. Her son, 15-year-old JOHN CONNOR (Thomas Dekker, “Heroes”), knows that he may be the future savior of mankind, but is not yet ready to take on the mantle of leadership that he’s told is his destiny. John finds himself inextricably drawn to CAMERON (Summer Glau, “Serenity,” “The Unit”), an enigmatic and otherworldly student at his high school, who soon proves to be much more than his confidante – she assumes the role of Sarah and John’s fearless protector. On their trail are not only threats from the future, but an intelligent and tough FBI agent, JAMES ELLISON (Richard T. Jones, “Judging Amy”), who soon becomes a powerful ally.

Only time will tell if this will pan out to be a good series. I am certainly willing to give it a chance. Can I program my DVR two months in advance? 🙂
